ポタラ宮：
チベットの中心地ラサ、標高3,700mのマルボリの丘に建つ大宮殿。17世紀中頃に十数数年かけて建てられ、以来、チベット仏教の最高位でありチベット政府の元首でもあったダライラマの正式な居城、チベット仏教の聖地として知られていたが、1950年のチベット動乱に際しダライラマ14世がインドに亡命して以降は、主なき城となり、現在は博物館として使用されている。東西に400m、南北に350m、13階建て、1,000の部屋があり、１万の神棚、20万の仏像を擁するという壮大な宮殿。1994年、周辺の遺跡とともにユネスコ世界遺産に認定される。
Potala Palace :
The Potala Palace is located in Lhasa, Tibet, on Marpo Ri, 3,700m above sea level. The construction was started in mid 17rh century and lasted for over 10 years until end of the century. The Palace was chief resident of the Dalai Lama, and was the sacred place for Tibetan Buddhism until 1959 when 14th Dalai Lama fled to India for Tibetan uprising, and is now converted into a museum. This great palace measures 400m east-west, 350m north-south, and its 13 stories building contains 1,000 rooms, 10,000 shrines and about 200,000 statues. UNESCO World Heritage listed “Historic Ensemble of the Potala Palace, Lhasa” in 1994.
